The Pinehurst Public Services Department would like to invite the public to the Annual Public Works Week Event. It will be held in Cannon Park on Friday, May 21st, 2010 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
National Public Works is a celebration of thousands of men and women across the nation who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. These employees often go unrecognized for the jobs that they do. Without their dedication, every day functions vital to the public’s health and well being would not be facilitated, such as road and right-of-way maintenance, and trash and recycling pickup.
Public Services will showcase information about each division - Streets & Grounds, and Solid Waste. Learn about our recycling education program and see a variety of equipment in use - tractors, mowers, hand tools and safety. Please feel free to interact with our staff and learn about their roles and functions.
The first National Public Works Week was in 1960 and was affirmed with a resolution from the United States Senate and with letters of acknowledgement from Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon Johnson.
Please join us for hot dogs, chips, cookies and soft drinks.
For any questions or additional information, please contact the Pinehurst Public Services Department at 295-5021.
